Ellen Mayer

Robin Pfahning

Ellen Mayer founded Providence Tango in the summer of 2000. She has since been making tango fun and accessible to students and enthusiasts in the greater Providence area, and her excitement and love of dance has inspired a growing, creative tango community. Ellen's experience dancing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and traveling to dance around the United States has made her an elegant and imaginative "tanguera." Her teaching emphasizes personal style and inventiveness, while maintaining a strong focus on form and technique.

Robin Pfahning is a visual artist and RISD graduate who has become fascinated with Tango as a form of artistic expression. She has evolved as a dancer in a community that is nurturing and open minded about the dance and brings these same qualities to her teaching. Skilled in both leading and following, her teaching focuses on the simple mechanics of movement while emphasizing the importance of clear communication, musicality and maintaining connection.

    Evan Griffiths

“Evan is the West Coast’s ‘secret weapon’. He is one of the most talented leaders (and followers!) around, with a refined ear for the music, and the technical understanding of the dance in order to interpret successfully what he hears. Evan has paid his dues as a dancer, teacher and musician in the Tango and it is obvious when you see/hear him.”

Bill Pease Bill is a classically trained musician who has been able to extrapolate his musical knowledge into the performance of Tango music. As a DJ, Bill's goal is to play the most inspiring music from all musical genres with heavy emphasis on the traditional Tango repertoire. Having a degree in music theory and composition from Boston University has given Bill a unique technical and theoretical insight into the harmonic and rythmic structure of Tango music which, under the tutelage of Ben Bogart of Providence Tango, he has applied to creating programs of contagiously danceable music. Bill is committed to the playing of great music in all social Tango events everywhere. Bill and his wife Anne are the organizers of the Friday night Tango Incident - a weekly milonga started by Ben Bogart featuring a program of both traditional and alternative Tango music.
